VCMG Reveal "EP2 / Single Blip" Release Details

VCMG - the much anticipated collaboration between Vince Clarke and Martin L. Gore (Depeche Mode) - will precede the March 12th release of their debut album "Ssss" with a second EP entitled "EP2 / Single Blip" which will be released on February 27th. Here's the official press release announcing the second EP:

DEBUT ALBUM "SSSS", OUT 12 MARCH 2012

VCMG "Single Blip"

"EP2 / Single Blip" - from Vince Clarke and Martin L. Gore's highly anticipated collaboration, VCMG - rears its head on 27 February 2012, with remixes from Byetone and Mathew Jonson.

A pounding motorik beat heralds the start of this minimal electronic tour de force. With primal drums and puckering bleeps, it's an industrial battle cry of the darkest proportions, setting teeth on edge with nails-across-blackboard screeching, ominous synths and spiraling rhythms.

"EP2 / Single Blip" tracklisting:
1. Single Blip
2. Single Blip (Byetone Remix)
3. Single Blip (Mathew Jonson Remix)

"EP2 / Single Blip" remixes come courtesy of sparse electronic artist Byetone, aka Berliner Olaf Bender, co-founder and the man responsible for the iconic design output at Raster-Noton. His 2011 album Symeta featured in Fact and The Quietus' end of year polls, and previous remix credits inc Modeselektor and eLan.

Alongside is a remix from Mathew Jonson, co-founder of Wagon Repair label and one-quarter of electronic improvisers Cobblestone Jazz. Canadian born Jonson has previously remixed the likes of Plastikman, Tiga and Chemical Brothers to great acclaim.

"Ssss" - the debut album by VCMG - is out on 12 March 2012 and boasts ten tracks of the same Teutonic turn-ons. Written and produced by Clarke and Gore, the album was mixed by Timothy 'Q' Wiles and recorded and engineered by Sie Medway Smith and Clarke.

Mastered by Stefan Betke (aka Pole), the album demonstrates Clarke and Gore's shared love of electronic music and marks the arrival proper of this enigmatic duo who have teamed up again after thirty years.

Speaking to MOJO this month, Clarke says the collaborative process was "really about exchanging colours… like two people doing a painting in a different room," and Gore confessed his preference for "anything that's a bit darker… with a driving rhythm."

Dinger Tracks Available For Free Download

Pierre Cope, who was with Andy Bell duo Dinger back in 1982-1985 has made available for free download two Dinger tracks.

Pierre Cope

The first one, "The End" was Andy Bell's first ever demo recorded in December 1982, a month after they met. They recorded it on a small Fostex 8 track machine in Watford, in some guy's bedroom studio for 30 pounds. Pierre played the music and Andy sung. The original 1/4" master mix was lost back in the late 80's. Later in 2010, Pierre took the only original TDK cassette mix that he had which was very old and hissy and converted it into digital format. The quality is weak so the song was never considered for putting out as a remixed sale.

The second one is "Air Of Mystery". Andy Bell and Pierre Cope released a single called "Air of Mystery" in 1985. It became a highly sought after addition to the collections of Erasure fans. Many years later, in 2011 the track was remixed and released along with four other old demo tracks under the title of "Sunsets Pink". You can buy it in all good online shops as a digital download or order a physical copy in Amazon USA.

Download both tracks for free here. You also listen "The End" at Youtube.

The new VCMG track "Single Blip" which soon will be released as an EP is featured in a latest Quietus Radio podcast. You may listen it in full here. "Single Blip" is the very first track in this podcast.

Vince Clarke And Martyn Ware To Release "House Of Illustrious"

Vince Clarke and his long time collaborator Martyn Ware (who also produced Erasure's "I Say I Say I Say" album) are compiling a super-luxury 10 CD boxed set, called "House Of Illustrious", to be released on Mute Records in spring 2012. This will be an exhaustive 10-year retrospective of all Illustrious’ soundscape compositions, with over 10 hours of original content, most of which have never been made available on disc before.

Malcolm Garrett from 53K and Tim Milne from Artomatic are currently designing extraordinary packaging for this once-in-a-lifetime release.

More info about Illustrious can be found here.

Vince Clarke To Release Samples Collection

Back in 1993 Vince Clarke released "Lucky Bastard", a huge collection of sequences specially created by Vince using his massive collection of classic analogue synths. That was a comprehensive collection of multisamples, plus all the samples from Erasure's "Phantasmagorical Entertainment" tour are featured.

After 18 years of almost constant endeavor Vince Clarke is almost ready to allow his latest masterpiece out of his studio. The specially produced website will tell you all about it as it happens...

"Love To Hate You" - Another Russian Cover

Three Russian top artists, Dima Bilan (Eurovision song contest winner), Philipp Kirkorov and Nikolay Baskov has recorded a Russian-language version of Erasure's classic hit "Love To Hate You" and performed it on 2012 New Year's night on Russian TV.

Keane Vote Erasure The Best Live Show Of 2011

Tim Rice-OxleyWell, perhaps this isn't the view of the entire band, but Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley voted Erasure's 'Tomorrow's World' show in Brighton as his best live show of 2011 in his end of year round-up for Keane's official website, saying "Possibly the most underrated band of all time, and it's a crying shame they're not a considered a national treasure in the UK. One massive singalong hit after another". Marvellous. Thanks to Steve for sharing that one.

Doctor Who Wants 'A Little Respect'

Matt Smith, the current (and rather fantastic!) Doctor Who, was a guest on Zane Lowe's breakfast show on BBC Radio 1 last week, and among the favourite tracks he plated was Erasure's 'A Little Respect'. Marvellous, part two! :-)

The Erasure Information Service Festive Countdown

In the last newsletter before Christmas I brought you news of the Erasure Information Service Festive Countdown which counted down the twelve days to Christmas with a different gift of Erasure content each day. Naturally the countdown has now ended but just in case you missed anything I haven't taken the page down just yet… click here if you want to grab free downloads of 'A Whole Lotta Love Run Riot' (taken from the recently released 'Erasure - Tomorrow's World Tour' album) or the previously unreleased Steve Smart & Westfunk Main Room Dub Mix of 'When I Start To (Break It All Down)', or a sample chapter from Paul Hickey's book 'Sometimes - A Life of Love, Loss & Erasure'. There are also live videos from the DVD elements of last years reissues of 'Wonderland' and 'The Circus', Vince Clarke's 'Meet & Greet' video, a poetic tribute to the band and - of course - festive messages from Andy and Vince. Erasure Charity Auction + Raffle

Thank you to everyone who supported the EIS charity auction on eBay and the charity raffle via Lexer Music, we have raised in excess of £2000 to be divided between the two charities we were supporting; the International Rett Syndrome Foundation and Gilda's Club NYC. I should have a more precise figure shortly, once the various fees and expenses have been taken into account, but your generous support is very much appreciated, thank you! The various raffle prizes were all sent earlier this week so should be with the winners any time now (or as quickly as it takes a package to travel from the UK to the four corners of the earth!)…

Lexer Music Andy Bell And Yazoo Sale

Lexer Music (who run the Official Erasure Shop) is running a special sale with all their remaining stock of Yazoo and Andy Bell tour t-shirts available at half price, plus two different Erasure postcard sets (five postcards in each set) for just £1.95 until January 23rd. While stocks last!
