"The Erasure Show" -
25th April Gig
As we all know 25th April was Andy Bell
birthday. Here is a little report from
Brooklyn Sue
about 25th April gig in New York:
Andy Bell's birthday gig at Irving
Plaza was awesome! A bunch of us who had queued up early to be in
the front had party hats, balloons, streamers, and an 8-foot long
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDY BELL" banner. The whole audience sang "Happy
Birthday" as Andy's wings were being removed after Erasure's 2nd
song.
The crew also had a suprise in store for Andy later in the gig. One
of the guys came out wearing Andy's sparkly blue "Bell-vis"
jumpsuit, and carrying a huge birthday cake. Andy was wearing his
red jumpsuit at the time.
Vince has his camera out, snapping photos.
Here are several photos from that night

"The Erasure Show" -
Final New Work Gig
The intro was "Mr. Gribber And His
Amazing Cat". They performed "In My Arms" as the third song and
toward the end - "Victim Of Love". For the first time in NY Erasure
performed three encores: the usual "I Bet You're Mad At Me", then
"Sometimes" and then finished with "Who Needs Love Like That".
Andy kept thanking everyone in New York
and Irving Plaza for a great two weeks. He even said at the end: "I
didn't think we'd be be able to get through it and now we don't want
to leave!"

New Andy Bell Song
Awhile
ago Andy revealed that he has collaborated with 'god-father' of
electroclash Larry Tee. Vince Clarke have been also involved into
that project. In a most recent interview Larry confirmed that he
will soon release the album "Gentle Electric", a collection of
"beautiful electronic songs".
"It's a continuation of the work I did
with artists like W.I.T. and Avenue D from the beginning of the
electro wave, except there are more serious themes," Tee says. "The
song "Matthew," which is sung by Erasure's Andy Bell, is about gay
hate-crime victim Matthew Sheppard." Read the full article /

"The Erasure Show" - New York
The North American leg of "The Erasure
Show" tour has started 14th April in New Work.
On the first night the setlist was the
same as the final European shows: 3rd song being "Victim Of Love"
(no "Brother And Sister" nor "Phantom Bride"). And towards the end
they played "Solsbury Hill" instead of "Who Needs Love Like That".
The intro was "Mr. Gribber And His Amazing Cat". Eckland did 8
songs.
On the second night there were several
changes in setlist. The third song was once again "Victim Of Love".
But instead of "The Cirucs", they played "Phantom Bride". Instead of
"Solsbury Hill", they played "Who Needs Love Like That".
Also, before "Breathe", Andy dedicated it to Steve and Jill Walsh,
the producer and vocalist from the Brooklyn recording studio who
were in the house.
The intro for second night was "Three Blind Mice".
On the third night (16th April) the
third song was again "Victim Of Love", but instead of "The Circus"
and instead of "Phantom Bride" they performed "In My Arms". Also, at
the end of the main set, "Who Needs Love Like That" remained, rather
than "Solsbury Hill".

Live Here Now - No US Shows
Message from the Live Here Now team:
"Thank you for the numerous enquiries we're received about Live Here
Now and Erasure's forthcoming concerts in America.
Unfortunately, due to a number of factors and considerations it will
NOT be possible for us to make Live Here Now recordings of these US
shows. We're very sorry not to be able to provide the service to US
fans on this tour, hopefully we'll see you next time.
Of course it's little consolation, but do remember that downloads

"Don't Say You Love
Me" Video Story
Here is a story behind the "Don't Say
You Love Me" video.
Having lived the pop dream for almost
two decades, Vince Clarke and Andy Bell of Erasure have now been
sent into space by Nexus directors Tom & Mark Perrett, previously of
Fizzy Eye, for a new music video to support the band’s most recent
single, "Don’t Say You Love Me".
Brothers Tom & Mark took their inspiration for the video from the
tin astronauts they used to play with together as children. The plot
soon escalated into an excessive childhood toy space fantasy
complete with rocket ships, moon walkers and robotic dogs.
Commenting on how the video came about, Tom Perrett says, “It
started as a cheeky way of integrating a live-action performance by
Andy into an animation, based on those old 60's toy astronauts with
bizarre 'illustrated' faces. We'd shoot Andy's face and then map it
onto a kind of animated printed sticker inside his helmet.”
Mark adds, “The song seemed to suggest a certain emotional
distancing, so we cast Andy as a spaceman living a lonely, humdrum,
old-fashioned futuristic life, orbiting the moon. Vince provided a
bonus sub-plot as a frustrated mission commander and soon we had a
complete Erasure space mission going on!”
Rather than being an action-packed animation, the video is more
emotive and hinges on the atmosphere of the track coming through and
adding to the storyline. The design and feel of
the
shots were fundamental to getting the feeling of the video just
right. Tom & Mark spent a great deal of time working on the designs
and models for the toys and interiors in order to balance the more
melancholic side of the story with some subtle, and much more
stupid, comedy moments.
